hi all

Just got my axle and suspension bits back after having had them blasted and painted by a chap in Fulbeck Lincolnshire, so can now start to rebuild..

I'm wondering whether to use a suitable "gear oil" RTV gasket maker instead of the paper gaskets for sealing the swivel ball to the axle?. The sealing faces look ok, but wondered what others experience is with leaks in this area. I would plan to use same RTV as used for sealing final drive into the axle.

any advice or thoughts gratefully received... might put some rebuild pics on after i've completed it.

cheers

oil proof rtv silicone sealant is perfectly fine, lr themselves only use sealant for diffs and the rest of the transmission, it wasnt a mr stratton was it

cheers.. thought it would give me a better chance of getting a good seal....

Mr Stratton?.. who did the blasting and coating? had it done at a place called Bob Dodds... quite pleased with it.. glass bead blasted so not overly aggressive and coated with some hard wearing paint, that adheres direct to the bare/blasted surface... told it was as tough as powder coating... I guess I will find out after a few miles...

don't britpart use those for gaskets?... maybe they use aldi instead of the superior kellogs material...
