Dear All, looking for some advice/recommendations. Off to Scotland on a west coast tour next summer. As per title I have a 90 soft top with roof tent. Logically, a soft top isn't the most secure of Landies, though I do have good security for the whole truck.

However, I really must have a secure rear bolted down compartment for the more valuable/necessity kit :. I want to make one from, most likely, 3-5mm alloy checker plate + burst/grinder proof locks. Can any of you recommend a build design that you've found works with a 90?

Would welcome to see your pics/suggestions.

Thank you
Andrew

I am sure you can buy something, so there must be good pics out there to copy from.
If you do a search for defender rub storage on ebay, loads of hits.
I use a pair of laycorn boxes , which I made a frame to lock it in place.

Cheers

How have you fitted a roof tent with a soft top?

I use a large zarges crate fastened down in my tub for valuables etc.

Thanks guys for the great replies. After a good search I've settled on T-boxes as they'll fit snuggly/tight up to the bulkhead and come in different sizes + are readily available...though the cost of some suppliers is simply staggering, so will be staying clear of the profit merchants[!]

Flat, as yet haven't fitted the roof tent to the soft top. Luckily, I have a full blown Safety Devices cage that's welded/bolted at multiple points through the body all the way down/round to the chassis: it's a serious cage. If the cross frames are not in the ideal location I'm going to make 2no alloy thick dia' tubes to attach to the cage that adds proper lateral fixings/supports for the tent, then powder coat black to match the safety cage. I have all this fun to do in the New Year once the old girl's back together with new engine and suspension.

I've got 1" box section across the floor tub and up each side with a rear facing bench seat over the top.(back against the bulkhead) 2mm plate closes off the space and folding seat base can be padlocked down to secure inner space.

Also fitted isofix for kids seats.

My roof tent is attached to the cage. It works well.
