Hi all,

I own a td5 county 90 station wagon its bonatti grey with black chequer plate on it.

I am after some smart looking side bars to bolt on but i have not seen any that i like the look of yet.

Some of the tree sliders looked good but i found out you have to remove the sill to install and i am not going to cut my sills off.

I have the black chequer plate along the sills which looks smart so really i am looking for something that will compliment this and look good.

Thinking of probably something black with maybe a bit of silver on it.

I think fully chrome ones might look out of place.

If anyone can suggest some good quality ones though that would be very helpful. They wouldnt necessarily be used for getting in the vehicle as i am 6ft 2 but i suppose thats a bonus as well as looking good.

Was going to suggest 'fire and ice' steps but see you've already found those!

The std sills just unbolt you know.... Most people fit sliders in place of the sills as you can lose a lot of ground clearance if you go underneath which among other things can look a bit silly if you leave too much of a gap.
I've got black steps underneath the sills & still not entirely sure about them... But the mrs likes the convenience so I guess they'll stay for now. Mine tuck in tight to the own sill.

Yeah I've also found the Masai fire and ice side steps they look really well.

I get what you mean about going under the sills but at the minute I have the genuine landrover fold up steps.

Now I'm thinking that new side bars wouldn't hang down as low as the steps do. In which case I would be improving ground clearance compared to what I currently have?

They also wouldn't stick out as much as the Folding steps would they?

Aren't the sills just bolted on with about 4 L brackets? Mine were at least, I had the two part sills. Have you had a look at yours? I've heard people say theirs are riveted on so even easier to remove by drilling the rivets out rather than fighting old rusty bolts like I did. You can always keep the sills stored somewhere and put them back on if you change your mind and want to swap back.

Thanks for the heads up I hadn't looked at the sills I just heard someone say they have to be cut off. But mine probably remove just like you all say.

The Masai side bars look pretty nifty though!

Can you get hold of them for less than £240 think I want the silver and black ones

I hate to say this but these britpart ones are solid and easy to fit..

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but any ideas what paint code that is on that there 'fender? Mine is pretty much the same, but doesn't have a paint code under the bonnet!

Alm.

On a different note you could make your own. There's a thread on here somewhere I think, which I used. Actually pretty easy, a lot of fun and cheaper.
