First Thread, should have done it weeks ago.
I am at the end of my teather with the lights on the Defender TD5 90 1999....
Ive got no lights, ive got high beam on the Indicator column, but no sides, dash or headlights.
Ive checked as much as i can and am now completely foxed.
Ive got no power to the switch, ive got no power across any of the light fuses. The underseat fuse box appears to be ok... Fuse link 6 is ok.
It worked 10 days ago and then intermittantly... now nothing!

old chap had this on his td5 the wiring loom had burnt out new loom fixed it might not be what you want to hear

I have traced nearly all the cables except those behind the dash board, thats tomorrows job as its the only place that there is some joiners that i havent looked yet.

There is a inherent fault with the light switch of about that era, pull it out and check the connection on the switch, there is a copper type plate that sometimes cracks causing a loss of current. the switch is quite a simple mechanism and the inner workings can be seen without pulling it apart. If it is a cracked plate as above, it can be soldered.

I have a similar issue
My side lights work & high beams but no low beams.

I've checked everything I can.
The bulbs are good.
I chased the live cable from the bulbs back to the 2 fuses for left and right main beams. These are fine.
The earth for both bulb is fine as the full beams work.

Both fuses are fine.

I then checked the switch on the stalk. There is 12v entering it and sending it out over a blue cable. However no power seems to get to the fuses from here.

Is there something else I need to look at under the dash?

The relay for the lights should be fine. I swapped it with an identical relay for the indicators and still nothing.

If anyone knows what is going on here or has had a similar issue I'd really appreciate some help.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it is of any help but I had a problem with my headlights sometimes working and sometimes not, turned out it was a bad relay might be worth checking those

I have no rear tail and front side lights it's just had new indicator and wiper stalk, would replacing the lamps solve the problem as they are quite old do they work on a loop, also the horn didn't work until I fiddled and eased out the fuse holder which is quite loose....
Thanks

was it working before you replaced the stalk?

Have you checked fuses?

Unlikely all the bulbs have gone, more likely you've blown all the fuses somehow

Had the same problem changed the light switch all ok again, it is not unknown for the switch /stalk to fail.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys on mine it was the fuse box the carriers were all loose and there was a bad earth, just got to get wipers working now its had a new stalk so it might be the fuse not sure yet....
