I decided to take a look at the jack that came with my 200tdi 90. It appears to be an official Land Rover part, consists of a long screw which is turned with a wrench at the top, with a tubular bar which hinges downwards.

It doesn't look like the most useful thing, ripe for replacement with a more capable jack, but what is this thing meant to use for it's jacking points? I presume the tube slips over something which stopping it from hinging down - but can't spot anything obvious.

yer arse?:p

front dumbirons and rear cross member.
dumb irons might have rubber caps on em , the jacks bar slips into holes.
the jack should have a base.

Tubular outrigger in the middle under the back of the doors, that is connected to the middle of the chassis.

Yer turdo went off today Nobber so will be with you Friday at the latest - think it needs a signature.

nice one Od , il let ya know when it arrives.

get an air jack , landy jacks are crap and if yer chassis is soft it will bend stuff.
hi lift jacks in my book are dangerous , big 4 foot handle flapping round and whacking you on the chin isnt really a good way to change a flat.

i use a military screw jack my self , lifts the car up from under the axle so i dont need to wait for the springs and dampers to droop before the wheel lifts off the ground.

nowt wrong with a hi lift if your constantly aware that it may kill you at any given moment. nobber, you want to get yourself some man arms then the " big 4ft handle" wouldnt flap about :p

i use my hi lift for everything as i find it easy to slap under the rear x member or front bumper and lift away. dont take long.

Nobbers right. Ive nearly killed myself with my hi-lift. Have to lift the dam rear of the car to the sky to get the axel of the ground. Then guess what, both wheels come off the ground and WHHAAAYYY!!!! the landy swings around sidways kicking the jack out and droping to the deck. The standard one is worse though, mine twisted through 90 degrees when i lifted the front, i was waiting for it to sheer in half.

The bottle jacks are good for wheel changes. Lifting it by the axel is always a good start.

That's because you didn't chock the wheels at the opposite end of the car. and you should always chock the wheel front and rear. as this stops the vehicle slewing round.

But as peeps have said Hi-Lift jacks will try to kill you if you don't keep an eye on them, and should only be used for emergency recovery purposes where a standard bottle or trolley jack can't be used.

air jacks man ,aaagh, the things dreams are made of

YouTube - Discovery 3 / LR3 self recovery with air jack

cheaper than a hi lift , which incodently , isnt rated to lift the weight of a landrover at full height.

still , if you are a complete moronic idiot an air jack can still kill you, although if you were a complete moronic idiot (like george bush for instance, or any other american president for that matter) then you probably wouldnt ber readin this now , you would probably be down in A+e getting a tin of baked beans removed from your arse.

I got a HiLift which I find is OK for changing wheels, but for working I got meself one of them 3t trolley jacks from Halfrauds with a 600mm jacking height. Wang that under your trailing arm or diff and I got a pair of 3t axle stands to be on safe side anorl.

I got a bottle jack for emergancy wheel changes cus its small. Then I got a 2.5 ton trolly for use at home and a 4' hi lift for lifting the body and working on spring/shocks so on.

When using the high lift and working underneth I always slap some spare wheels (or anything else that might do the trick) under the chassis so if she does go im not squashed like a baked bean!

But failing everything else I find the forklift truck works well!! Although not very portable!

i had a highlift but it slewed out and bent the straight bit of metal that it climps up . so im saving for a new un . but my mates broke whilst is landy was in the air and jammed up so he just drove off. fukin savage

hun73r i see from your photo uve got one of them cheapo winches off ebay . overwise sold as a tmax. i also have one . do you service it . and how effective do you find it off road.

This is the second one ive had. I had the 4 ton version and burnt it out. So the supplier swapped it out for the 5 ton. Which I havnt had any problems with.
One thing I would say (which prolly goes for most elecy winches) is waterproof the solonoids!! Cus they dunt like the river!! I used a can of Tectyl on them and have had no more problems.

How have you found yours?

well i parked the landy on a steep hill of mud and used an old sea anchor as a grund anchor and she pulled it straight up. and pulls the 109 out when it gets stuck . but the way i look at it is that i can replace it 3 times for 1 warn winch. and i hardly ever use it and to be honest i just fancied havin a winch . mines the 5 ton un aswell.

I came to the same conclusion! I dont use mine much either. I only ever whip it out (so to speak) on the odd occation when there isnt another landy about to do the job!

Ive got one of those too, 12,000 lbs one. Seems to work. Ive covered it in oil, and sprayed the two beams that go across the top as they started rusting. Ive used it a fiew times and never had a problem. HuN73R; i wouldent "whip it out" whilst your using your winch, that could result in a very nasty accident!
