Hi all.

I've just purchased my first defender 90 and I am trying to get through all the jobs I can see need doing. As I'm used to classic minis I am used to the problems these old cars have with rusty chassis...

I've had a poke around it today and chased a hole which has become quite large around where the legs join to the crossmember.
Someone has suggested that I should try and plate the holes and bodge it for now but I am wondering if there is anyone local to me who could replace the whole thing for me if I strip it down and reassemble it?

I've restored two minis before so have basic welding knowledge but don't fancy doing the cross member myself.

If anyone could help or put me in touch with someone near to me (I'm in Preston, Lancashire) that would be great.

Here is a photo of the holes I have chased out today...

Many thanks

Put a call into pressbrake and he will fix you up with the best money can buy

Cheers guys, it looks like Basildon is a tad too far for me to travel to get it fitted. I'm happy to purchase one from him as they sound good, I am also wondering who can fit it?

He'll make and ship to you then have a welder local fit. His stuff is the strongest out there. a few on here have driven 3 hrs to get to him. Advice: rethink and weigh all your options carefully

I'm just about to order one off Pressbrake tomorrow on the back of all the recommendations on here. My Defender has had a cross member fitted some time in the past and it's rotted through again so I want to do in properly.

I'm guessing any local welding companies will have done loads of Landy cross members! I'm just learning to weld so I'll be getting someone else to fit mine too.

Thanks for the recommendations ;) (still waiting for accy to renew sponsor status)
As thor said check the back end of the chassis and send me a pic of whats there so I ammend the extensions if needed

Ive just driven 2 hours to get a roll cage done by him. Thread of build will be posted on here. Blacksheep off road

:hijacked: The rest of the chassis is OK, it's had a new O/S outrigger at some point but the N/S needs doing, I'll be replacing that when I do the rear cross member.

Pressbrake, I'll buzz some pics over later showing where the current cross member was attached.

So guys, it looks like I have owned the land rover not even a week and it is having a new cross member... ;)

I've taken the exhaust off (one bolt had to be hacksawed) and the mudflaps (one bolt had to cut off), I am no in the process of taking out the loom.

Is there anything else I should look out for in terms of things that will break?
Everything has been soaked in WD40 for days now so I am hoping it will come off ok.
