Hi All,

I'm looking at fitting a dual battery system to my 90, but I have discovered that its currently fitted with a large truck type (much wider than a car) battery under the passenger seat. (I say fitted, but it slides around) I have see dual batteries before so I'm assuming the standard defender users a normal car type battery.. can anyone point me in the direction of size of this battery, and can I fit two in the same space? google gives me mixed results. should I keem the larger battery I currently have, and mount the second battery elsewhere?

Ideally does anyone have a pic of a older defender (200tdi) battery in place?

Cheers

Wayne

Do you know if you're alternator has been upgraded as well as the big battery?

Am curious, what do you want a dual battery system for?

Agree, what are you trying to achieve?
The standard set-up is fine for normal running, a second battery with split-charging is usually only required for winching or camping.

Whatever you do secure the battery now, a loose battery is just asking for trouble and battery terminals have been known to come adrift.

Don't know about the alternator.... I'll check but I'm assuming no based on my experience with the previous owner.

I'm working towards a camping vehicle...inverter etc etc with extra lights, so I don't want to end up flat.

Secured!!!

the bigger amp battery the better, if your flush with cash red top for your engine and yellow top for aux's but you can use anything that is has big enough cranking power and as for fitting a second battery you can use anything that will fit im, but it can be a tight fit. just have to be clever about getting the second one im, cutting along story short my mate had an old 110 to be bashed about his farm and he took the side of the seat box off to get them both in lol

yes you can fit both batteries in under the seat, you also dont need a upgraded alternator, you do however need to fit a split charging unit, cole hersee makes one

I have the numax batteries fitted under the seat in my 300tdi 90 i also use the x eng split charge system. There is also room in there for an aux fuse box as well.
