Hi all,

I've restored a few Series Landies in the past and owned/worked on a few Military Defenders, but never done a COMPLETE rebuild onto a new chassis before.

I've been given a thoroughly rotten G reg (1989?) Defender 90 2.5Tdi that I want to rebuild onto a new galvanized chassis.

I've looked at the Richard's chassis, etc, but I'm seeing a lot of Defender 90 TD5 chassis on ebay, "brand new", for a prices that would give me an extra £600 to spend on the rebuild as opposed to buying brand new (@£1400).

My question is, how easy is it to modify a TD5 chassis to suit a 2.5Tdi rebuild?.

Anyone got any advice on what would need to be done?

I'd love to fit a 200tdi or 300tdi, but I want to do this conversion within the DVLA rules... (https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/radically-altered-vehicles, have a reciept for the new chassis + proof of destruction of the old one, etc.).

Cheers folks!

I will be "blogging" it here while I do it. I have until May 2014 to complete it as a new member of the family is arriving, so it really needs to be done by then (sounds like one of those "against the clock" Discovery channel programs doesn't it? :))

Fuel tank on new chassis would be at the back apart from that I think is much the same...

Engine and gear box mounts
fuel tank in wrong place
Rad mounts are different.
Cant think of any others of the top of my head.
