hi guys, im sure these discussions have been about so many times, but iv just put my 90 back on the road and just found out,or realized i have a Sherpa engine fitted. these are supposed to be better than the 12j, but mine is abit tired i think, but i want to rebuild it, but i have no idea what they are like, just with shells, rings, head gasket, hot spots, valves as mine has had a snapped cam belt,so might be new pistons too,re-con injectors, its had a cam belt quite recent, but iv been told, scrap the ****ty 2.5 and tdi her, but i dont want to just throw something that's survived the last 25 years, its come this far. but are they strong and up to it when they are in good order??

thanks for any advise, much appreciated.

Tom.

I bought my 90 with a Nissan Cabstar engine. It did the job and had been moderately well converted..... But the engine was getting old and sourcing the correct parts was looking to be a bit of a pain.

In converting to disco tdi, i now know exactly what is there, how old, how many miles, how well serviced and where to get the parts.

Once the unwanted parts were sold on, the engine, transfer box, two axles and alloys cost me £26. You just can't argue the logic in a disco tdi swap.
