When I turn on the ignition I get a ticking noise from a box in the battery compartment. Can anyone tell me what the box is and also why when I put my foot on the brake pedal the ticking stops ?

Well just remember that the corning are an ethnic minority now... someone will have a gripe!

(That's if Totnes is cornish I haven't a clue!)

A box in the battery compartment? Sounds like a relay, do you have a photo of said box? t'internet suggests that box in battery compartment may be summat to do with aircon, or alarm.

Actually in the battery box? Nothing like that in mine.

There is the EGR controller thingy under the passenger seat?

Some models have the spider (part of the immobiliser) in battery box

Think spider has relays in it so could be the relays making the noise?

It's obviously the brake ticking warning relay which naturally stops when you push the brake pedal.

That is because your brake ticking stop relay stops ticking when it should, proving that the ticking relay works and the brake stop pedal turns it off as it has been circuit tested locally without lighting up a warning light on the dash ... if it did it would be something else, but it isn't coz it doesn't. :D:D

Is that explanation simple enough or do you require more detail? ;)

Removed the spider, AMR 4889, disassembled it and a resistor has burnt out; seems it has been immobilised and landy still starts, all I need now is a replacement resistor. Anyone any ideas where I could get one ? Thanks for all the help so far it is appreciated. Oh Totnes is in Devon bye the way.
