Hi, we have recently bought an ex military defender 2.4l to ford puma engine 2008, and now need to register it by filling in a v55/5 form, on this is asks a million questions including what the engine number is, we have had a good look and are still a bit unsure as to where it is, is there any one out there that could shed some light on this so I can get my new wheels off the driveā€¦ Many thanks

From the workshop manual - "The engine identification plate is located on the cover of the timing cover. It contains the date and time of manufacture and the engine part number".

The diagram in the manual shows a plate, like a vin plate, on the timing cover, so I think they may have slipped a couple of extra words in the description?

Just looked under the bonnet of my 2.2 Puma; there is a label stuck to the top right side of the timing cover (when viewed from the front) with a 12 digit number followed by the engine code number. The first six digits look like Year/month/day. The second six digits will be the engine number, the engine code on yours will be something like DT***. The whole string of numbers on the label will be the engine serial number.
Checked in my V5C; the number on the label - all 12 digits and the DT engine code - is the number recorded in the V5C.

Thanks for your help. We contacted the dvla who said we now don't need to fill in the engine number bit, so hopefully closer to getting moving :)
