My Defender 110 is coming up to 12,000 miles and, therefore, its first service. Although I feel that it would be safe to take it back to the dealership and get them to service it, their prices are double those of independent garages. Thus, my head - and my wallet - feel like going to an independent. Does anybody have any views on why a dealership might be better? How can I find a decent local independent - I'd prefer a Landie specialist? Thanks.
 
go with an indi. the stealers are... well, stealers! unless you want a perfect record for your 110 when it comes to sell. you could also try it yourself. a bit of prep and a weekend will do you :) along with a haynes.

I always find the independant sellers who advertise in the back of landy mags such as land rover owners international are a good bet they generally always offer workshop facilities i found a local dealer by me through there and saved myself a packet and as he always has a stock of scrappers in any naff small parts needed can always be sourced second hand saving a bundle on genuine parts from the main dealer.

You have to get it done by someone half decent. When you car is under warranty it has to be serviced according to the manufacturers recommendations and all parts used must be of O.E quality and recorded as such. A good independent will have an Autodata service sheet to work from which they get from LR this is what you want, also on the invoice you must list the parts and the brand of part used must be of approved quality.
