I've got a discovery 300tdi which is running dead **** at the minute sluggish as hell on hills and towing the caravan so i was thinking a deep service is in order.

the list of stuff i was thinking;
clean injectors
drop coolant and flush
renew glow plugs
replace engine breather and pipe work
oil change
filters change
drop gear box oil and renew

is there any way of flushing the engine out of oil ? also recently ive noticed she wont rev over 2.5k revs whats going to be best starting point of this fault?

is there anything engine wise ive missed what would help me out of getting this engine back to life and running better with out rebuilding it
 
Air intake pipework, flush intercooler, filters. Not revving over 2.5k has to be lack of fuel or air, my guess would be either delamination of the intercooler pipework or lift pump fubar, neither of these is an uncommon problem.

Let is know how you get on.
 
Change the fuel filter, this is quite likely to be why it's not revving over 2.5k, running on veg can cause this.

It's also worth checking the injection pump timing, as this can also cause bad running.
 
I do not know whether there is a sediment filter on the Disco, if there is make sure you clean that out.
 
Thanks for the advice guys the not reving over 2.5k I've been chasing for a while now I've checked for delamination of pipes etc changed lift pump to a Delphi one and also did the fuel filter and sediment and it made no difference at all.

Another quick question guys can the camshaft, crankshaft and injection pump just drop out of timing of so its a something I've never done and don't have to tools is it worth doing as a novice or trying to get help local ?
 
Also check the small plastic pipe that links the turbo to the top of the injection pump for leaks / holes. If the pump doesn't get this pressure signal from the turbo it wont increase fuel delivery rate when the turbo is on boost. Checking timing of pump is fairly easy if you have kit but it cant confirm the cam timing, when was the last time belt was changed?
 
I have no history to tell me so I'm really unsure when it was last changed, I do have the full tool kit for the timing belt, cam belt and injector pump.

The engine breather pipe work is shot to **** but I'm struggling like mad to get another pipe.

If you don't know when it was changed and you plan it keep it I would change the belt/roller/tensioner. If you do that you wont be risking a potentially impending failure, plus you will know that you don't have a timing issue
 
Yeah I was thinking of doing at all as you say kwakerman, I've seen a full kit on eBay for £60ish I was thinking of buying that.
