Hi all

I have a range rover sport im thinking of changing to a defender 110 xs.
I dont have bags of extra cash, so i can choose from similiar mileage td5 or tdci lump veheicle.

Whats recommended?

Used to have a 300tdi 90 that i loved and before that a stunning sIIa that i restored from a dirty old trialler back to standard, now want another useable landy that i can fit the kids, fishing kit, surfboards etc in and i wont worry about getting the interior dirty like i do with the rangie.

Also up for a swap by the way!

Any feedback is gratefully received.
Cheers
rex

I have a td5 and love it, a lot of people slag the tdci off but I've not had one so couldn't coment. There are a few threads on here where this has been discussed.

Had a 200 90 years ago and after many series thought it was great but now I've a 110 td5 it's amazing loads of power been decated good on fuel considering the size.
Can't comment on tdci never driven one.

Its a dilemma as i get much more td5 for my money, and wonder if the service, repair etc will be easier, cheaper.
My dad has a tdci 90 and loves it, especially the 6 speed box, but the nice ones are jut a touch too high in the money for me.
Hmmm

The six speed does sound good as they always seem to need an extra gear, with the td5 you can drop a disco transfer box in to get a better top end. What's the difference cost wise?

Got mine remapped no egr and removed centre exhaust box, sounds great an got all the power you could want.

I've got a 2005 TD5 110 CSW that l use all day, every day.

I have to say l love driving this vehicle, and since selling my Transit Connect have never looked back. Coming from a Range Rover you might have an easier time with a tdci XS though, as you suggest.

Personally having driven a 2011 tdci XS l still prefer my TD5. Also if you get a good TD5 110 with low mileage (around £15,000) you won't lose any money on it.

The TD5 is alright, cruising speed about 65mph. I have driven it flat out and it will sit at 90 mph, but that's not what Defenders are about.
You can do 75mph though, without feeling like you are hammering it.

Noise levels are not bad, it's no Range Rover but you can talk to your front seat passenger without raising your voice.
