£10K would buy you an L322, but you might find you would spend another £10K keeping it running.
Spend half the £10K on a really good P38 and keep the remaining £5K for maintenance, if you DIY less than half £5K would do it.

Excellent thanks for the advice

Sample size of 1!

The L322 is nicer to drive but f*ck me it is expensive when it goes wrong. Complex too compared to the P38. I don't think you need to spend £5k for a decent P38 but I agree with the advice. L322 owners might not!

EDIT: any of these cars are going to empty your bank account without some DIY skills.

the L322 is a nicer drive, that's a matter of opinion, German park bench hard seats, too much glowing stuff on the dash at night and IMO the ride is harder than the P38.
The P38 is a much easier DIY job and the parts are much cheaper than the L322.
My mate has just got rid of his L322 for peanuts and bought a Defender.

@Rainsy I always find this type of question an odd one. As far as I am concerned, choosing my car, especially one for every day use, is as personal as which mattress I buy, which shoes I wear and which style of undies I wear. I might ask others what they think of different styles but I would never base it solely on that.
Have a good look around the forums, see what people say about each model, test drive two or three , minimum, of each, Which model do you like? Some people on here are totally biased against the L322, others love the same model , some love them all. However, our opinion is only that. You need to put some work in and decide which one is for you.
Otherwise, next thing you know I'll be off buying you loafers when you like boots and @tomcat59alan will be out buying you briefs, instead of boxers, because they're his favourite and he likes you in them ;)

I find my L322 a little stiff on the suspension and seats but do have 20” rims but I quite like the idea of a nice comfy classic, with the v8 of course. I like the idea of driving around in an old leather sofa with bouncy suspension. But back to the original question , I would go for a 4.2 SC.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I had a p38 a good few years ago and loved every second of owning it. It was dse navy blue with the grey leather and manual.

I was undecided weather to give an L322 a go as I had heard various nightmare stories.

For now I think I am going to keep my eyes peeled for a really nice p98 in blue ideally. That’s been cherished.

Better the devil you know.

So if you hear of anything please give me a nudge. I think I will keep @tomcat59alan at arms length to

My P38 was the comfiest place to be. I preferred the seating, layout, & general trim finishing on my Vogue SE spec over any L322 or my Discovery. But, as much as i loved the V8. I'd never get another car with a ROVER V8 with 96mm cylinder bores, just madness!

But can you retrofit a 3.5L V8 into a later model for that "Bullet-proof" feeling?

And this from Goldie! Fur coat and no knickers, you know I go commando.:D

Neither..

I'd have a nice Hard dash 3.9 Vogue Se RRC.

They don't have the nightmare electrics of the L322 and P38 plus the styling is spot on!

I found the L322 rather uncomfortable the seats were much too firm and i didn't fit in it!

The P38 is a good car but you have to be spanner handy..

If you're not it'll drain your bank account.
