I think something is crumbling into dust as my central locking is failing in it's one task

A couple of weeks ago the front passenger door began not always unlocking when I hit the button on the remote but that is just a case of leaning over and opening it by hand and all the other doors unlocked. A pain but not the end of the world as it is a good excuse to not carry a passenger and maybe just an actuator/switch issue.
Now I am having problems with the tailgate but it may just be the switch in the handle 'pocket' as it sounds as although it unlocks from the remote it will not open normally but does open if I use the relevant button on the remote.

Are these likely to be linked or is it just a co-incidence?

I'm guessing Freelander 2?
No they are not related.
The passenger door issue will be the actuator/lock assembly, if you can hear it making a noise when locking/unlocking.
If there's no noise from the lock, then it's most likely to be the door control module behind the door panel.
Be warned that if it is the lock, and the second motor fails, the door will be permanently shut from inside or outside, but you'll still be able to unlock the passenger door using the emergency key, but the only time the emergency key still works is if it's the passenger door.

The same problem on any other door is an issue, as the door is very difficult to open should both motors fail.

The boot issue will be the switch under the boot handle, which is a common issue with these. The switch assembly is available cheaply, and isn't too bad to replace, but the boot inside trim needs removing to access the plug.

Many thanks for that, I was hoping for co-incidence as while that means two things to fix, they would be much lower complexity
