only one way round it, have it running on gas when you go for mot..

That is all well and good J. But it should still be failed on MOT if it does not have a cat fitted and it was manufactured in 93 or after. VOSA will pick this up at some time and there will be a lot of very unhappy people about.

Hi Wammers
I know you've been in the trade a long time (and I ain't teaching you to suck eggs) but isn't there something about if it drives into the testing station on Gas, it's then tested on Gas and if the emmissions are OK, that's all there is? Conversely, if it went in there on Petrol, it had to be tested on Petrol regardless of whether it could be switched over or not? I know there are some cars with flat undertrays that cover the exhausts so how would a tester know if there was a Cat fitted or not other than by the emmissions? (or whether it was aproved or not?)

Less of the just if you don't mind.

Derek it is open to interpretation on the "At time of test" rule i suppose. There is a part of test that says "Check that no part of the system is missing". So i suppose it is open to interpretation yet again and could be failed for missing cats even if it passed the emissions test. But if you were caught by VOSA running on petrol without cats, in a vehicle made in or after 93 i would think the fine would be sustantial.

Hi on my DSE, running veg oil cuts my emissions well down, it's a '96 plate so would I still need the CAT

Yes any vehicle made in or after 1993 must be fitted with a cat. Diesels are not checked for CO2 however, only for smoke.

Like the idea of knocking the insides out but putting back the case, would that still count?

Thanks wammers

Do what you want to it's no skin off my nose. I have always been a little worried by government who bring a law out that increases the CO2 output of all vehicles, then decide not to tax you for road use, but to tax you on the thing they have made you make more of. Then talk about charging for road use which is what you were taxed on before they decided CO2 was a better bet, on top of the CO2 charge. CO2 only feeds plants and only a minute amount of the money taken in tax from motorists is ever spent on roads. So make your own mind up just what all these regulations are being put in place for. The UKs CO2 output could be halved in a day if all cats were removed from vehicles but that would mean the country would heat up and be like Spain overnight according to the government paid scientists and global warming experts. All bull**** for the use of gathering tax.

PS Remove all the cats i like Spain.:D:D:D:D:D:D

Can the noise be fixed, cheaply?

No.

I'm in this position at the moment. Pretty sure the previous owner knocked the insides out of mine and it just sounds like it's got a very echoey blow. Ok with the windows shut but horrible otherwise.

I'm just waiting for enough other bits to stop breaking long enough to allow me to save up for some sports cats.

I had a chat with my garage about the legal side of decatting the other day. He wasn't aware that they had to be present - he's only interested in the emissions.

i have a 2.5dse straight trow if u drive it normally a lovley burble and if u gun it sound lik muscal car i get 30mpg round town. But have a allisport big core full front intercooler and a psi tunning box with itg performace filter 195bhp and 280lbf its a moster. Nxt hybrid turbo which 250bhp 325lbf

With all those fuel drinking mods think it's time you invested in a new fuel computer, obviously yours is broken.
