And you need to wait 15 seconds between removing a valid key from the ignition before using another key as it “remembers” that key for that length of time
 
My intention was to have a backup key for when my daughters lose there we are not stranded.
Maybe I will tape the good key to the steering column and use keys that cost $3 at the local hardware store?

I don't think you'd be the first to do that.

But I wouldn't write to your insurance company and tell them what you've done!
 
Here I sit in the Land Rover Dealership in Kansas City . I wonder if they will be able to program the spare key this time? I have soo many other things I could be doing instead of my third 3 hour round trip

It's the wrong key. The dealership ordered the wrong key and tried to pass it off as the correct key so now I have to make a 4th 3 hour round trip in 4 to 6 weeks. Incompetence knows no bounds!
