Yep, got 6 inches of snow on my door step and I am putting off attacking the Discovery at the minute, well until I've had another brew an a slice of toast, how you doin up there? Iwas in Thirsk last weekend briefly (read as thought I knew where I was going but failed to put the satnav on and was driving in the complete opposite direction :rolleyes:)

@Dalai Farmer use credit card, buy diagnostics, pay it off as fast as you can and enjoy the reduced hassle and cost savings it will bring in the future, I always thought they were an investment, turns out that when you own a D2 they are a necessity and should be bought before you picked it up.
 
So. I am now going to try and get a replacement internal fusebox. Hopefully that will cure the ills of Rocksie.

Once last question; if changing the fusebox doesn't solve the problem and the BCU is at fault (when I examined it there was zero water marks on the case, so I assume that there is no water damage to it...) is it possible to use a pre-owned unit and reprogram it with the settings in the current BCU (once I have the correct gizmo, obviously...)?

You really need to get diagnostics on it, otherwise you are guessing in the dark.

A scattergun approach to parts changing rarely works with modern vehicles, and will be expensive.

Bit like yourself. I'm on the A61 outside Thirsk which is open but icy in places. Thankfully most of the locals are wise enough not to travel but I heard Tescos was packed out at the week-end with panic buying. And you've put me in mind of a slice of toast and a cuppa. All of which doesn't help Dalai Farmer - have a good look inside the box for corrosion. Mine seemed ok on the outside but a second hand one proved an instant cure for me. However it is well worth spending a few quid getting a proper diagnostic check by your local indy. Good luck

Well, whilst I agree generally, I've owned my D2 for 3 years and 40k miles. I've not yet succumbed to the need to plug it in.

I expect that I have just given it the kiss of death and I'll need a diagnostic when I try to start it later!
 
I would agree that water ingress in the under-dash fusebox / IDM would be my first port of call - especially as it's reasonably easy to get at.
Once out you can open it up and you will see if water's been getting in to it. You can't really see without getting the covers off.
 
A "B" with a line through it is almost ALWAYS a knackered BCU. They do not need programming as such. You do not need to buy a new one, contact Heathy (Paul) at Discovery 2 Parts on 01206 211623, and give him the model number of yours. He is almost sure to have a good used matching one you can replace it with, and he might even have the EKA for it..! Once you have it, fit it and wait with ignition on pos II for 10 or so minutes for it to recognise the security code and then it should be OK. You will need to plug it in to set it up for your particular car with either a Nanocom or Hawkeye, and then you can get the EKA from it, but do set the security as "key always" to allow key immobisation of the immobiliser...

Once again, all the people on here have been a HUGE help!!!! Thank you all, each and every one!
Hopefully Paul in Gt Tey will have some type of diagnostic system to kick start Rocksie back to life...
 
So, the saga continues...

I have now removed both the internal fuse box and the BCU, stripped both and neither are showing any sign of water corrision damage on any of the PCB surfaces.

This leads to a few further questions;

1. If it isn't the BCU or internal fuse box causing the fault and the crossed through letter B on the LCD display, what else could it be?
2. Can the BCU just go and stop working? Or is there always some reason for it failing?
3. Can it be the cable connecting the BCU to the fusebox that is at fault?

Once again, all help is gratefully received!

I wish I had stuck with my old 110 as it was sooooooooo much simpler to keep going...
 
Go and see Paul, he is most likely, if you talk to him nicely, to plug it in and fit another BCU and/or IDM to try to see if that resolves it for you. He is a great, REALLY helpful bloke.

I will pop round in the morning. Not too sure how I can get the dead Disco to him, but even a chat and some advise will help. I do have the (possibly) knackered BCU out and ready to be replaced, so he may be able to do something with it, even if it's use it as a paperweight...
