Just after some advice really!

I have searched on here but not found an exact match to my fault, so I thought it best to start a new thread.

Let me go back to the beginning...

Not long after I got her, the front demist started playing up, only one side would work, then the other, then neither, then both etc. Not the end of the world so I ignored it.
Then, for some reason the radio started playing up; whenever I touched the brakes or put the indicators in it would mute for a second or two. Once again, annoying but I sort of put up with it..
Then I started getting the holy trinity of dashlights, not all the time, just once and a while, for no apparent reason. They would come on, be illuminated for a few seconds to a minute, then go out.
Then, last month, I put a new starter motor on her as the old one was beyond redemption, and all was fine (apart from the faults above) until about two weeks later. I would turn the key, and the starter would turn over for a few seconds then stop. Release the key, repeat, and it would turn for a few seconds and stop.
Now, when I turn the key I get the "bong bong bong bong" and the little D (or B) on the LCD panel with a line through it.

My first thought is a knackered BCU. Would this seem plausible?

my second thought it what else could it be? Not keen on spending almost £300 on a new one for it and then find out the old one is fine.

Then, as these things come in threes, my third thought was (after reading umpteen posts all over the interweb) how am I going to get my EKA as it wasn't in the paperwork when I got the car? as I need this to un-immobilise the car and then read the settings from the BCU so I can transfer the map from the old one to the new one.

Finally, can you reprogram a second hand BCU with the map from my BCU or is that a big fat NO NO??

Lots of questions here, and huge thanks for all help offered!

If it helps, I am based between Colchester and Sudbury, so if anyone knows the answers to this multitude of questions and is local, I can provide, tea, cake and possibly alcohol for once you get home...

Re the EKA, I wandered into my local dealership with the V5 and they gave me the EKA code. Dunno if they're supposed to or if that's normal, but might be worth trying.

Are you sure your battery is in perfect condition, and do you have a diagnostic unit suitable for the vehicle?

Hello

EKA can be got for £20 ( fingers corssed it has not been changed by an OP ) from these guys or via your local landie dealer with proof of ownership.
http://www.mgrovercodes.com/eka-codes

Make sure you follow the manual exactly.

The blanked B is a known issue, which has posts on here.

Cheers

We need to find you a guy with diagnostics to come and touch you in all the right places.

Have a look here https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/the-lzir-map.264099/ it's a map of all the LZIR guys and then you can find someone close by and send them a PM to see if the two of you's can't get together.

Failing that, I have a phobia of Land Rover electronics and can't really help.

Alas no to the diagnostic tool. Cant really afford the price of buying one (Nanocom, which is the unit of choice I believe is £300 plus)...

He posted it in the Disco 2 section, so I imagine it is.
Apologies for not noticing that. It's just that I had identical problems: I eventually discovered that a leak from the sun roof (never) had led to water dropping onto the dashboard and eventually running down to the fuse box where it caused corrosion. At one stage the car was being very silly - foot-braking caused the wipers to come on etc Changed the fuse-box - all problems solved. Then dealt with the leak. It's not a big job changing the fuse-box.

It will save you lots of money and hassle in the long term.
These vehicles are not tolerant of low battery, and this time of year is hard on batteries. Might be worth trying that first.

Oh, thats a new one on me! I will take the internal fuse box out and take a look. I was informed that the BCU can take water damage (it seems fine from my uncultured eye) but I didn't know about the fusebox under the steering wheel.

Out with the spanners again!!

And the battery is about 18 months old, so it *should* be okay?? I thought these things lasted yonks in today's world...

So. I am now going to try and get a replacement internal fusebox. Hopefully that will cure the ills of Rocksie.

Once last question; if changing the fusebox doesn't solve the problem and the BCU is at fault (when I examined it there was zero water marks on the case, so I assume that there is no water damage to it...) is it possible to use a pre-owned unit and reprogram it with the settings in the current BCU (once I have the correct gizmo, obviously...)?
