Got word from the garage today on the situation with my Defender 90 which was at first leaking smoke from the oil filler cap and then had a runaway diesel which I managed to stall a couple weeks back.
The garage have recommended that I either pay £1700 to get the engine reconditioned but that does not include any work on the turbo which may also be damaged. He said my best choice was for one of their workers there to work on it privately and place a Disco 200tdi engine with 70,000 miles on into it, this includes the newer turbo, radiator, clutch and any other bits that are needed, fitted for £1800.
Firstly what are Defenders like with Disco engines dropped in them?
Secondly do you think I should take legal action on any kind towards the people I bought it from, it was advertised as being a solid motor and I got it from a garage in Blackburn. The car was advertised on Auto Trader through the garage's page but it was actually a project of the garage owners and I bought it from him at the garage but the money was to his account privately as the car was in his name.
Do you think I should seek to get financial help from the garage/bloke or even ask for a refund for the vehicle and give it him back? I love the car, it looks great for its age and is well done up but I have only owned it for a month and this was its first trip that really exceeded 40 miles at a time.
Any advise on any of these matters will be greatly appreciated, thanks guys.
