Disco 300 tdi 1996.

Some suppliers are now selling exhaust front pipes without catalytic converters. Are these road legal or are they only for off road use ?

I have to re-new my exhaust front down pipe soon, am I correct in thinking that if I replace it with a through tube (pipe without cat) it will not pass the next MOT as it built with a cat originally

on a diesel you dont have a cat it acts more as a filter., with a straight through pipe the emmisions will be more or less the same.

its not a real cat converter the proper name is a partucilar filter or somefing like that !!if its old its proberly not doing its job right anyway, so change the fing to a straight through pipe wont make any difference and no problems with the mot either !!

Do it!

Brother-in-law has a N plate 300tdi and doesn't have a box on the exhaust and it still passed an MOT it sounds like a tractor.

Hi Red:

1. De-catted downpipes are perfectly road legal;

2. If you fit one it will NOT adversely affect your mot - it might even improve the emissions test as it will allow the motor to breath better. The UK mot is only a smoke test and vehicles DO NOT need to be fitted with a "cat".

It's one of the best cheap (£21.25+vat from Paddocks) mods you can do to a TDi 300. It will improve responsiveness and mpg.
