Hi all, so loaded up the escort on the trailer for a trackday at Snetterton at 4.30 this morning and the clutch cable went putting it on the trailer. A mate who was also going said he had a spare so thought we would fix it at the track.

3 miles from Snetterton doing about 50mph and there's a hell of a rattle from the landrover I dip the clutch and coast into a lay by.

So managed to get a clutch pedal on the escort

Loaded the 110 on the trailer the escort was on

Then got a mate to tow the trailor home with me following behind trying to get a gear in the escort.......what a frigggen nightmare.

Basically, the landrover rattled like hell and come to a halt. Can only start it with my foot on the clutch as it seems to be in gear......even though its in neutral.

As soon as you lift the clutch it try's to stall and won't move?

........any suggestions? It's a 2002 td5......I'm pouring a whisky!

Sounds like your main shaft or lay-shafts decided they weren't happy in their working environment :D

Happened me before too on the way to a track day although didn't rattle. Coasted to stop with car and trailer in tow. realized I still had 4th gear and then was able to split that into two with the high and low range so continued on with that to the track and back again that evening. was about 300 miles round trip in one gear lol.

When I got home too, it was in 4th no matter what I did with the gear lever so pressing the clutch was my only neutral.

What a nightmare. I didn't have anything :-(, could only start it with my foot on the clutch. Tried all gears even the hi n low......bugger all but if I lifted my foot of the clutch, even with it in neutral it would just stall like it was still in gear but with the brakes still on......gearbox hunting today!

Well... you've learnt something... next time take a bigger trailer and stick a spare landy on it as well... just in case ;)

Least you got home :)

Wish I hadn't sold the series 2 now lol. That would have got me there.....asking as I had left early ;-)
