Make sure you get the right wattage bulb I got some replacement ones from a local car spares shop an the fookers melted the greenplasticshroudythings.

When i flip that switch the only thing that happens is the interior light turns on and off. No light on panal comes on. What does that mean? Could it be a fuse so? What fuse could it be and i will check it?

Does the switch actually HAVE a third position?

It int A bulb, there's fookin hundreds (well, at least a couple per instrument-panel gadget!) and they're LED so it isn't likely that they ALL would have gone.

Are you sure you're trying the switch while the lights are on?

They are 501 wedge bulbs on them not leds oddie

i think it is older LR's with the switch - neither of mine have been military but they both had it.

In one position it will light up the dash lights, but only if the sidelights are on as well.

Yes it is the older ones that have the 3 way switch. Since the other dash guages are illuminating it aint the switch at fault. It is either the bulb, the bulb holder has fallen out or is knackered or the wire is damaged. First things first though......

TRY CHANGING THE FECKING BULB.
