No way the cubby will come out on my 2 non sat nav versions.
The only thing I can think of is, the centre dash moulding is different on models that didn't have the option of
satnav, the cubby fits in the opening that would hold the satnav unit from what I can see on the images of the
centre dash section online.

The models with the full black plastic with cubby will not come out but some of the walnut ones have a black cubby that is removable instead of the sat nav, i have a walnut one to fit to mine but the cubby part is £100 second hand or fit a satnav that does not work but i use the cubby part :(

I think I do, but it's going to be a palaver to change out it seems. :(
Why they didn't make it removable like a Radiohead I don't know.
Sounds like a faff yes but it's only about 30 mins work having just done it. The consul cheeks are the only head scratching part but they are easy once you know. I had to remove the hvac for repair and get access to the clock and didn't have to disconnect electrically anything except the switch pack and fag lighter. The hvac may possibly be left electrically connected too but as I was fixing it anyway it was removed , only 3 multiplugs.
What I thought would be a pita was the radio ,but that just needs releasing from the security tabs and all the eas etc switches at the top but there is enough slack in the cables for the whole lot to pull forward and gain access to the rear for the clock.
Remove
Knee panel 4 screws
Switch pack 2 screws
Gear surround 1 screw?
Ashtray 2 screws?
Side cheeks 2 screws for each
Hvac 4 screws
Top bit with the clock, can't remember how many (4?)
If that top bit still seems attached at the steering wheel end then there is another screw hidden under the binnacle so that will need removing too. That hidden screw was missing on mine so binnacle didn't need removing but it's only another couple of screws if it does.
Those 2 little screws at either side of the steering column shroud can easily be removed with a screwdriver bit in a 7mm iirc ring spanner and adjusting the column for maximum room.

Strange thing is, it seems they fitted whatever was available in the parts bin on the day, there is no definitive answer
to which models (with walnut) had them and which didn't, I was thinking models (with walnut) that had the satnav
option but, I'm probably wrong, I give up.
