Toying with exploring the options to put a power socket adjacent to the interior light above the front seats to provide a power source for a dash cam, anyone done a similar thing?

wondering what the cable rating is that supplies the perm feed to the light, can I use it? re-fuse it or just run a new cable to not over complicate things?

Cheers. :)

Run a new fused feed from the fuse box up the pillar and along the headlining, take just as long to do that as fluffing around with the interior lights lol

New twin core cable is cheap, they use bugger all amps and I think you'll find a lot of them run on 5V as per a USB connection so you can run very thin cable up there if it's solely for the dash cam, or you could run a decent cable up there to a mini fuse box and give yourself extra capacity for any future upgrades such as a CB or extra interior lights or what ever you fancies really.

There are hard wiring kits available on eBay, with 12v. In and 5v out with enough cable to run from a fuse box up to the camera via the ‘a’ pillar all the cars I have have that style of installation.
