Hi All,

I noticed today that the passenger side front carpet is damp in my right hand drive 1995 P38.

I know that a damp driver's side is normally the heater matrix O-rings, but my driver's side is fine. What's the likely culprit on the passenger side?

Thanks!

Malcolm

It can be TWO things.................

1. Heater Matrix "O" Rings

2. Pollen filters are blocked (& its Rain Water)

To Test ............... stick yer finger in the damp patch ....& Lick yer fingers .if it tastes "Sweet" its yer "O" Rings ..If it tastes of "Nothing" .. yer Pollen filters are blocked .....

And as someone said on t'other site .. if you have CATS ..well Its YOUR Choice!!!!!

Thanks!! Hope it's not the o-rings as that's a bit less than pleasant...

Re. the licking the dampness...hmmm...my carpets stink like no other car I've ever come across (that's one of the primary reasons the car was so cheap - it's like something died in the car and it's rotten bodily fluids were absorbed into the carpets).

I'm a trifle wary of licking anything from the carpet until I've thoroughly Vax'ed it..!!!

Did take the rather thick (Landrover) carpetted mats out today and showered them with scalding hot water and used a bottle of Co-Op's finest value shampoo. They smell lovely now!!!

It IS the quickest & easist way Malc, just "Damp" yer finger & touch yer tongue with it ... you'll instantly know (Tastes like Sugar) only takes the tip of yer finger

Have you been running the A/C? could be a blocked drain, I believe there is one drain on each side.

Blocked aircon drains, one each side exit under the car either side of the gearbox. Open the end which is flat and you will likely get an armful of water! Poke the end of a wire coat hanger up into the tube and give it a waggle to clear any debris.

When i first got my p38,the aircon drain pipe on near side of gearbox was blocked.
Hence the carpet on passenger side kept getting wet.
Got underneath the gearbox, and reached up with a metal coathanger straightened out, then poked it into the end of the pipe.
Was a nice shower to :D

Yup. I had the same issue on my 4.6. Drain plugs were blocked.

Amazing how much water they hold as well!:D

feel an idiot I cant find the air con drainage pipes either side of the gbox, any clues please

they also like to leak from the bulkhead and base of the plastic box which holds pollen filters, access is from under scuttle panel. easy to check drop the trim off under the glovebox and look around the heater blower motor.
if you cant find the drains from underneath easy to get at from inside if you remove the trims either side of the center console

Long arms and a good torch, black rubber tubes with what looks like a closed end but are actually rubber lips which act as seals to stop water going up the other way.:) This assumes your car has aircon:rolleyes:
