Cockernee, Pasty munchin bastid.
:eek: Both me Diffs (1993 200TDi 90) are ****in out oil.
Looking underneath, they've both been dinged / holed - must er bin them ferkin rocks last weekend.
Trying to weld patches on, but the surrounding metal is so ferkin thin, it's very difficult and very unlikely to give me an oil-tight repair.
Anyone got any bright ideas - short of replacing both axles!:eek:

Yes, in future I'll invest in a pair of Diff Guards.

Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated.
 
one shot aint designed for diffs. weld on pans would be good if its in the right place. but i think tre would have thought of that.

look out for a cheap 200tdi disco thats shagged. you can have both axles and i will have the injin :) halves?

one shot grease?

where are the holes? ive heard of people weldin in new diff pans.

The holes are right at the bottom of the Diff Pan, where it has grounded on rocks, guess.
Can you buy new Diff Pans? If so, I'd have a go at cutting the existing ones out and welding new ones in!
 
Cheers Griff - I'll have another look in't mornin.
Need to make a temp repair (filler?) till I can get the bits and the time to do a proper job.
 
exhaust bandage might help the filler to stay on , or some of that liquid metal stiff.
 
your filler may contam your ep90 or bits may get in and soilidify on your diffs. cant you use gaffer tape? or too impractical?

Don't fink gaffer tape would stick too well, unless I can get back to bare metal (bin waxoiled numerous times, plus lots of oily crud!)

If I drain the remaining oil, then apply the filler and let it set well, before re-filling, I'd of thought that would be OK temporarily (i.e. for a couple of weeks)?
 
you can get stuff fi bee and cuu called chemical metal thats like a putty that you can flatten out and stick on to almost any thing (if you spray a bit o degreaser on the area first)
 
I got a pair of 300 axles front and rear wiff diffs swivel housings discs all round think all is needed is some half shalfts wer gonna take um to sodbury

I managed to get reasonable patches welded on eventually, by turning the welder right down and grinding back further to some slightly thicker metal. Not particularly pretty but almost oil-tight. Then I applied Chemical Metal arount the seam and covered the whole lot up with underseal.
I think I'll buy 2 new Diff Pans to do a proper job when I get time.
Seems to be keeping the oil in for the time being.
 
use chemical metal to gob em up but make sure you drain em and clean the area up first. it will last about 12 months before it needs replacing ;)
