Mines permanent 4wd, but the light only comes on when I use the difflock. Thing is, you should know what gear you're in and wether you're using h/l ratio/difflock anyway...

That light is just a warning light to let you know you've got diff lock engaged - so that you don't mangle the transmission by leaving it on on tarmac. :)

If the transfer box was really in neutral then you wouldn't be able to move anywhere at all. It must still be in high

yeah thats what i was thinking. i gunna go back down the garage an take a proper look at it tomorow. see how things go

dont use any other gears than normal untill you understand how they work....
they are to expensive to beak.
even then only use lock n low when you need to and as soon as you dont need it put it back to normal drive.

What is the best way to test it?

I mean on my own

Park on a flat surface, chock the wheels, handbrake off, out of gear - and lift one wheel off the ground. If you can spin the wheel, your diff lock isn't engaged - if you can't spin it, it means the diff lock is working properly. :)
