Hi All
Been watching a D4 3.0 sdv6 cam belt replacement during which they occasionally refer to "The Manual" on a laptop.
The manual looks very good, great diagrams and comprehensive text.
Is it possible as a simple owner to obtain such a digital document ?
Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

NPG. Apologies for the late reply, link worked well, all installed. I had no idea it is so comprehensive. I have written many work related procedures in a past life, but have to say this one is quite tricky, it seems to jump about a bit. Have managed to pin down the relevant sections now, so a few reads & re-reads should clarify things.
Many thanks for your help, tying the various steps to the film of the task will help me decide whether to start it or not.

Not done aD4 belt, but did my D3, and have to say easy job, not saying thta as I am paid to pretend to be a mechanic, but it really is quite simple once all the crap is out of the way.
Rear belt is timed on the D4.

Lynall. Did you remove the starter motor and lock the flywheel ?, I did read that it was not always deemed necessary & probably ignored.......

Nope just marked flywheel, but did pin camshafts.
This was 6 years ago now, and they need doing again I have bought the timing kit so may try using them out of curio.

Interesting; It was on Powerful UK video that they were deciding to or not to, but did it for the benefit of filming it.
Given the probable cost (had D3 belt changed around 5yrs ago) buying a belt, tensioner, and the tools, timing kit + fan spanners would be around £150 so a big saving
and incentive.

Parts prices have defo gone up I rckon you can add at leats another 100/150 to that parts bill, dont forget you also want the two idler pulleys for the cambelt as well, good practics to change water pump as well, plus fan belt and tensioners/idlers if they need doing.
Basically if it moves/rotates double check it whilst you are in there.

Iirc both belts at a garage are somewhere near .6 to 1k, which in my mind is madness.

Thanks for the info, had been thinking that as I don't have the luxury of leaving it half done waiting for any parts. When you say "both belts" do you mean front & rear timing belts or front timing belt & auxiliary belt.
I'll have to do more work on the shopping list then, but sure even doubling it will be ok.
One question, how do you get the fan cover (removable section) off ? been doing some pre-cleaning and familiarisation, but cannot release the clip from either side, hoping they aren't a once only fastening.

No idea on cowling as not done a D4, youtube would be my first port of call, but you can guarantee if it is difficult they will gloss over that part of the job!

Yep, it appears the previous owner of the one in the video gave up and snapped them off , drilled holes and ty-wrapped it.
They have to undo so undo they will. On with the shopping list.

This is without a shadow of a doubt the best land rover forum out there.
But it can be thin on info for the newer models, D3 are now getting into the enthustiasts price brackets, D4 are still outside it at the minute, but it wont be long.

The Disco3 forum covers 3/4 and 5 models, the guy who owns the forum/s seems pretty switched on, and some of the members are very very clever sods, some are of course stuck up their own arse dingbats, you know the sort how dare the oiks buy the same car I have!
Ps added last bit as I guarantee it will appear on the other forum:D

hi mate

mine are due again in another 2 x years but alas got to get a garage to do mine and expect a 1k bill, just can’t do them myself with the way my back is , even though I’ve only covered a few 1,000 mile I’ll still get them all done, including another oil pump cover and another water pump, plus the rear belt , would rather spend a grand than 4-5k for a new engine

Gary mate when it needs doing il have my mate John do it for you, it won't cost a grand

that’s true , just thought for that little bit extra would give me peace of mind so then I know I’ve done everything possible to keep it 100% maintained , but see where ur coming from
