When the TPS throws the code you can't drive it much anymore, if it gives erratic readings it affects driveability without fault codes but as you describe it the problem might be from the autobox too, when was the oil changed last time?

that was changed last year...

so the truck generally seems to go well, but when I put the hammer down I can't totally trust it. Yesterday i kicked down hard and it felt like it accelerated then hit a flat spot for a second or so before carrying on. Not getting kangarooing every time I accelerate hard, but it does still hesitate when pushing hard. The autobox doesn't seem to know which gear to be in at this point - almost like it changes up and down. I checked my receords and although the gearbox oil level was checked last year, the oil was not replaced. Have reset adaptive values several times. No codes on Nanocom at all...

went for a drive - unplugged MAF and still had a hesitation when I kicked down at 70. Did the stall test - revs went over 3000 and car wanted to lurch forwards despite foot and handbrake on!

above 3000 rpm on stall test is not good IMO, try to change the oil again, twice, i mean put the first charge in, go for a drive as the box to change through all gears several times than change again this time the filter too maybe you are lucky
