Hi guys,

I'm extremely happy with my D2 (second gen), apart from the fact that the rear tailgate lock keeps giving up, resulting in having to load unload everything through the back doors.

My mechanic said it's an old Discovery 2 problem and that the only thing to do is to get a new lock every time I plan a trip, and then hope it lasts the trip , especially if it's predominantly dusty gravel roads.

The D1 with the key lock at the back seems not to have this problem, but it seemed to already have been a problem with the first gen D2 before the facelift.

Mine is second gen, and is there anything to do? And why did LR not pick up on this! And has anyone found a way around this!

I live in Namibia so not driving dusty trips isn't an option. hahaha

take off the badge and spray inside well with WD40 or similar... then jiggle up/down the child lock...if no joy u need a new door lock actuator

mine was the same, i bought new acutater from e bay for £60.00, take back panel off rear door. open the door by pulling the rods, and change over, easy job, though be aware of the 3 hex nuts holding in the lock, as i had to drill mine out, i got replacements from rimmer brothers for peanuts, hope this helps
