2nd time on here in 2 years, got some good info last time, hoping for same again... fingers cossed..

sorry if this has been done already, struggling to find anything.

over the last couple of months the m&s lights started, straight to garage, had gearbox oil and filter done and xyz switch refurbed by a guy on eaby. switch went back on but wasn't in right position. found a good landy specialist that calibrated it for me. prior to having it calibrated the rear airbag sensor bracket nackered and it droped right down. ordered new air bags, drove 3 miles very gingerly to where I could replace it and the m&s light flashed for the first time en route. did air bag, re fitted sensor, all good. took it then for calibration.. only mentioned the airbag as I think its just coincidental in all this.

picked car up, xyx in right position, gear box smooth and performing lovely, had oil and filters done too. on way home the lights came on at about 30mph in a village for no reason. got home re started and they went off, and all worked fine for another week. its happened again twice for no apparent reason over the last few days, both at the same junction turning right under moderate acceleration, engine at full temp, approaching im gussing 20mph at around 3000 revs.

just thought id try here before it goes back to garage and they probably tell me I need a brand new switch at £350 etc. thanks in advance.

Do you know what the fault code was?
Low battery voltage can cause the flashing M&S lights.
Do a quick Check of your battery voltage and check your power cable connections are tight and not corroded.

I don't know the codes, I didn't ask tbh. I will have a look at battery, I put a new one on 12 months ago, and always starts on button. thanks for reply.

Apparently there is a wire in a harness somewhere on top of the gearbox that can end up broke. If this has happened to you, it might explain why this always happens at the same place, the movement of the car might move the 'box just enough to open the gap between the ends of the wire in the harness. This would cause what JUKE179r mentioned.
Plenty of threads on the M & S lights coming on. I have recently had this happen to me too. But my box has a leak and needed ATF. When it happened to you, did your engine and box go into "limp home" mode, i.e. very slow take off in third gear? Of course if you stopped right away. turned off and back on again, you would have reset the M&S lights, (I think).

Have a good read and search on other forums too before spending money in the hope that one of your purchases eventually solves the problem. The solution is NOT obvious.

There can be 19 reasons for flashing M+S with limp mode and the only direct way is to read the fault code... the rest is a guessing game and can be expensive throwing money on parts just like that

Thanks for that, and makes sense to me, and yes it drops into limp mode.
Would be worth you finding the thread that shows the point in the harness where the problem occurs, if I can find it I

Hey, Sierrafery, I reckon this is the post I mistook for the old one last night. Hence same advice to OP who has the same sort of problem.

Anyway. Britlad, have a look at this site where there is a lot of good advice.

Apparently there is a wire in a harness somewhere on top of the gearbox that can end up broke.

If you follow the harness from the switch it goes over the top of the back of gearbox. There is a metal "P" clip bolted to the top of the box to hold the harness in place and it doesn't appear to have had any padding so the metal edge can rubb eventually chaffing and shorting the wiring. Mine was fine but I still slid a bit of tubing between the harness and the clip.
