Transfer box can be a few things but look at the output seals, front is an easy spot and the rear means your hand brake stops working, if neither of those then check out the intermediate shaft O-rings as they are the next (and IMHO the most likely) suspect.

There is a "bodge" for these as they are very common faults that makes a mess of your drive lol

With having everything off I think I’ll remove the nut as they did and tap the shaft out! Looks a lot easier and less intimidating that way :)

Also, I’ve found a Bearmach full gasket kit on Fleabay for a very good price - even if I don’t use all of the gaskets straight away I think they are worth having. I take it my Disco will have LT230 transfer box in it?

Yep, you can roll under and grab the serial number off it and that will let you know which variant it is, serial number is next the filler plug on the back of the transfer box.

You do realise that the D2 only had the LT230 in Europe and even in North America? Some had centre diff lock and some didn't, depending on your serial you can work out whether or not yours has it fitted.

I know it’s fitted, I can get under it with a pair of mole grips and lock it in, it even shows on the dash :)
