new to all this

Hi

For no apparent reason my central locking is no longer unlocking when I turn ignition off or when I reach the minimum speed for it to lock.

Also the central locking won’t lock on the fob although it sounds like it is trying to. Instead I get the alarm beep which usually means a door is open somewhere.

The locking and unlocking work when using the switch on the centre console so I am a bit confused why it doesn’t work.

Everything else works fine.

We have had a lot of rain last night and driving this morning.

I have changed the battery in the remote as a first step. I know everything is controlled by the BCU but that’s as far as I have got.

Any ideas where to start?

Key in lock has the same effect. At the moment I am therefore unable to lock the vehicle.

Hi

1. Unplug the driver's door actuator and try o lock then with fob ..if it works for all the other doors that way withoit the audible misslock warning replace the actuator cos it means it's door monitoring switch is fubar, if still the same with the actuator unplugged we'll speak then

2. at which "level" from 1 to 10 can you consider yourself when it comes to electric troubleshooting if you have to follow a circuit diagram and do some circuit tests with a multimeter ?

Thanks. I will try 1 in the morning.

As for 2 I would say 3/4. I have a multimeter but not an expert with it. Have used it to sort lights and motor issues on 1987 90 but that doesn’t take much skill.

I unplugged the actuator and tried again. Sadly didn’t not change anything.

Too bad, it seems that it's not so simple then. Just confirm that when you use the fob you can hear some activity of the central locking system just that the latches do not react while the central locking works well from the dash switch ?

That was right. However just gone out for a quick drive this evening and suddenly the central locking kicked in when I stopped and turned ignition off. Not sure if messing around with doors etc help but now back working. Very odd.

Seems that the problem is with the driver's door actuator which has a weak contact within

Before you buy the actuator check visually where the harness passes between the body and door cos i've seen cases cases when the wires were chafed there which can mix up the central locking and as you fiddled with the wiring it's possible that it affected that part ... better rule this out first

Hi got simulator problem with my disco 2 facelift it won't lock on the key or fob but will on the switch on the dash, it will unlock on the key and the fob, tried all suggestions on the forum but no luck, when I try locking the horn sounds and can hear the relay clicking in the fuse box under the dash, it gives the impression something is open checked all door locks and they seem fine, had a chap down with diagnostic gear and he seems to think it's drivers door lock but wasn't sure, any of your good lads got a sugestion, is there anything else would stop it from locking other than doors, bonnet and key in ignition thanks.

Hi. If it doesnt lock with the key or fob but locks/unlocks with the dash switch then the driver's door actuator is the first suspect as it has a microswitch within to activate the central locking which is bypassed by the dash switch, you'll have to replace the driver's door actuator to rule it out 100% otherwise any other troubleshooting is feckless... if it was ruled out and the fault is the same then we can go further but untill then i can't help much

Apparently new latches are no longer available so looks like a second hand one, anyone got a good one to sell unless they can be repaired.

Hi bit of a new development I have discovered the wipers front and rear and also the parking sensors work even with the key out of the ignition as I understand it this should not happen, is this correct and would that stop the car locking, thanks.

Hmmm... that's important detail cos it may rule out the actuator... seems that you have a permannent ignition on signal for some reason which would not let it lock as for locking one condition is that the ignition to be off

unplug the brown plug which is on the front side of the interior fusebox and see the wipers or try to lock that way... if it locks the problem is with the ignition switch, if no change the fusebox is suspect
