Evening Folks , got a query regarding by Discovery 2 car battery. Bought a YUASA around 1 year ago & if it’s not started at least once a fortnight and taken for a run it goes totally flat.

Now it is a fair size of battery and as it’s used only on weekends is this the cause for it going flat. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening time and time again.

I was advised to take it for a run , how long a run would be best for once a week ?

Having it idling stationary would that also charge the battery or not ?

Merry Christmas When It Comes.

Sounds like you may have an earthing issue 🤔!!

I have left my battery in for 3 weeks before! (Forgot to unplug it before going to work) came back! Started straight away!!

If I know I'm going to be away for a week or two!! I will do 2 things?
Ask someone to start her for a few minutes!

Or unplug her!!

Hi, OK it's Yuasa but what AH and CCA?, if it's the proper one you might have a quiescent current draw even though in two weeks unused if it was not fully charged before + cold outside it's not very strange to get weak. Buy a smart charger, you can't fully charge a weak battery with a short run or at idle unless you let it idle for few hours

+1 for the parasitic draw from SF. Do you you have a multimeter that can do DC current, to see what the vehicle is drawing off the batttery when not running, and ignition off ?

It could well be damaged and not holding charge anymore.
Disconnect the battery and charge it up overnight. Disconnect the chamber and leave for an hour. Measure the voltage, what is it? Reconnect and start the engine. What is the voltage while the car is cranking? Should be around 11v.
What is the voltage when the car is running with everything on, heater fan, radio, lights, heated screens etc

I was able to recover a flat battery with a day long charge.

Lack of use and winter kills them.

Only took of charge today due to rain direction.
