We have a problem that I'm struggling to get my head around.
The car is an automatic discovery 2 TD5, and it has no grunt in reverse.
Been fine up until now, and all forward gears are fine.
When trying to reverse you have to rev really hard to get it to even start creeping, and will not move up the smallest of slopes.
I initially thought torque converter, but l would expect to lose forward drive too if that was the case?
Done a gearbox oil change today and still no change.

what was the oil like ?

I wasn't there when he done the oil change, but he said it was "black and runny"
Not that that's a great deal of help lol

I'm not 100%on the disco auto box but most autos have a srperatevreverse piston setup if your struggling to get anything it could be that the piston valve is stuck open bypassing the pressure used to rotate the shafts for drive.. alternately a freelander for example has friction bands, I've had one of these snap which gave similar symptoms.. might be worth a call to Ashcroft to pick their brains, what they don't know about these boxes ain't worth knowing..
