We have the above on 18 in wheels and noticed that there is a slight tendancy to track to the left ever since we have had the car (about 14mths). We had had the tracking checked and adjusted twice and both times indicate a slight toe out (1deg.) on the rear right and toe in (0.5deg.) on the rear left - this would perhaps explain the tendacy to pull to the left. I know on some LR you can adjust the radius arms using washers etc but I can't see any way of adjusting them on the D2. Does anyone make adjustable bushes and/or would possible wear on the drive shaft cause the problem?

What are the tyres wearing like?
Whay tyres are thye and how much tread left?
Have you swapped fronts and rears?

I suspect this could be a tyre problem. I had a problem of pulling to the left and new tyres solved it. Other than that have you checked your track rod/draglinks?

Nig43 & Lynall, The front tyres are the same make and there is no obvious signs of irregular wear on them and the pressures are spot on. I have swapped the rears over as these are different makes but this made no difference. Dave.

Hi Dave,
I too have a 2004 TD5 on 255/55/18 tyres and they do have a tendency to tramline in ruts on the road, such as those left by HGVs. Folks suggest changing to 16inch wheels, but the cost of replacing 5 wheels and tyres is too much for me to consider. I'm on GG AT's for your info.

I fail to see how swapping from 18" to 16" wheels will stop tramlining as wheel diameter has no bearing on this only a different track width would affect tramlining. Switching to 16" wheels just gives a softer ride because of the increased tyre depth.

On my old '99 D2 It had 16"s on it when purchased, no issues with tram lining, when I purchased a newer D2 (it had 18"s on as standard) my Father purchased my old one from me. I wanted 16"s for some MT tyres so swapped the wheels over.

The '99 D2 tram lined horrendously with the 18"s on. So much so he got another set of 16"s for it and no issues at all.

Did you alter the track width with different non standard width wheels / tyres. My previous D2 was bought new 2002 with 16" and swapped 5 years down the line to 18", conversely my current D2 was bought with 18" and swapped this year to 16" always with OEM 8" alloys & standard fitment 255/65/R16 or 255/55R18 and neither have ever tramlined.

Both sets of wheels were genuine D2 alloys. The original tyres on the 16"s were standard 235/70/16, no issues with tram lining..... Later replaced with 265/70/16 again no issues, the 18"s were the standard 255/55/18 with a very good set of Wrangler HP tyres on and it was awful at tram lining.

I always remember the D2 on 18s being a real handful at times, looked good but bugger me was it annoying.
Tyres can also make a big difference, which is why I suggested changing rears to fronts!

Pretty much any car with low profile tryes will be an arse on todays roads, which is why I cannot understand why people want them, as good looks are great but surely practicality would win out?

I have had the same issue, swapping from the 16" to 18"
Looks good but is terrible to drive on the road.
Will be swapping back to 16" when I get chance

My Rangie had 20"s on as standard wheels when I got it (255 50 20) I know the track and suspension set up being different to the D2 but never had any issues with that tram lining like the D2 did on 18"s.

I assume a later one? if so independent suspension makes a massive difference to the live axle earlier motors.
