Disco 1 300 tdi manual drives fine and clutch works but when ticking over in neutral she makes a rattleing sound which goes when the clutch is pressed
and doesnt do it when in gear

Any suggestions as to what it may be ?

Coulf be release bearing. Not simple to fix as you need to get engine and box apart. If you do, change clutch plates, bearing, fork and rear crank oil seal.
You can live with it mind.
If noise occurs in neutral then the bearing isnt making contact then it may not be the bearing but perhaps fork or bearing housing coming apart. Bearing only spins when clutch engaged. So could be plate breaking up or something? Either way, new clutch everything will sort.....

Il be living with it as it only has to last till spring as im thinking of getting a 110 hi cap so i can get my bikes and logs etc in the back to save me towing a trailer

sounds like the old problem lr had which was cured by fitting improved clutch plate , it comes back as an issue when cheap or heavy duty plates are fitted, raising tick over clears rattle too
