Hi there. I changed the exaust manifold and turbo on my d1 300 tdi and shes all of a sudden started breathing really heavy, i have taken breather pipes off to see if the breather was blocked, taken top intercooler pipe off, no difference, and i took turbo oil feed pipe off and it seemed to breathe less. Is it possible for the turbo to let in air into the sump through the oil return, and cause the heavy breathing, or could it be a definite head off job. Thanks in advance for advice.

Hi richd1 WHY have you changed inlet & turbo ? New or 2nd hand ?

Steve
Hi steve, i changed it because the exhaust bolts snapped when i was changing the exaust and i thought it would have been quicker to change the whole manifold rather than take it off to change the studs. And it was a second hand one a mate had.

Morning richd1
Sounds like you put a crakerd 1 on ! Were's it breathing from ? exhaust or rocker top ?
Take the turbo inlet off & see how much movement you have in the turbo ! (side 2 side front 2 back) to much of ether & it will smoke out the exhaust !

Its breathing out the rocker top, checked the movement before putting it on and it seemed fine tbh.

Think your gunna have to fix your old manifold ! Drill studs out & re thread or nut & bolt ! Then see wot happens !

Steve

Yep, fixed the other manifold, fitted it back on amd still the same! Head off time i think . Must have been one hell of a coincidence.

Right, lets update you all with this. It was the head gasket blowing through the pushrod channel hens breathing like a train! Changed head gasket. All went well until i started her missing like a b**ch now , only thing i can think of is an injector might have gone down. Im going to do the valve clearance first so i can illuminate that out or hopefully cure it , tganks for your help
