Hi guys, hope your all safe and well? Just need some clarification on the bolts holding the starter motor in. Are the bottom and top one torx? If so normal Allen key type or the star type ? The one holding positive cable is fubar and hanging down underneath vehicle. I tried to undo with Allen key socket but it didn't feel snug hence my question on torx type
I await the wisdom of you awesome guys
Many thanks
Dave

Never had to go there, but Torx (star) and Allen (hex) are very different therefore easily identified.
So roll underneath and have a look see. :D

Mine were hex 5/16 or an 8mm one will do. Its better if you have the ones attached to a socket cause the longer the breaker bar on the end the better. Have fun, mine were a right PITA to get out. For prep I'd drown them in penetrating fluid several times before attempting to remove them & give em a gentle hammer tap to 'shock' them a bit.

You need allen key

Cheers guys, you are always there with your knowledge. Can't thank you all enough, so looks like a day lying down under Emily skinning my knuckles. It's always the same, you think you've finished doing the repairs! Arrange to go out over the plains with your mates. Emily has other ideas so I will be cursing trying to get the starter out. Meanwhile my mates will be having fun!!!!! Oh the joys lol.

Come on mate!, tell them your woes and I'm sure they'll be prepared to tow start you whenever you need it.
Unless its an auto, or even then!!!!!

Yep it's an auto here is another question, I'm getting ready to change my transfer box to a 1.4 as I've got 37"wheels on her so could I put a manual box in? How would I adapt for it to be supported in the tunnel as auto box is wider. Right got my coffee so camera . At least its a nice dry day. Enjoy your day guys and thanks again

Don't know but would like to know as I may want to do this in future although i loath and detest dual mass flywheels. I think you'll find the bodywork remains the same so it ought just to be a question of locating the mounts. And of course sourcing and fitting a clutch/pedal etc.
And I believe you have to tell the ECM and/or BCU but that just ought to be 5 mins with the Foxwell or whatever you have.
Good luck!

The crossmember and its mountings for the ZF auto box or a R380 manual box are identical so no worries there, some 3.9s were manual… and don’t worry about the comment in the other post, D1s don’t have a ECM or a BCU.

Sh!t! didn't realise this was for a D1!
If I had and was back in the UK, I could take pics of the underneath of my D1 V8 manual for him!
Soz about that!:(:(:(
