CV joint renewal.
Here's how ah did it....
First ah loosened the wheel nuts and the drive flange bolts...
then jacked the bus up and stuck it on an axle stand....
removed the wheel, rubber cap, circlip, shims and then the drive flange....
then ah drained the swivel housin'....
and ubolted the brake caliper and secured it out of the way to get at the hub....
The hub.
Furst ah bent the lockin' washer back, took off the furst big nut (using a hub nut box spanner), removed the washer, undid the second big nut, then holdin' the key washer with my thumbs to stop the bearin' fallin' out, ah pulled the hub off and stuck it tae one side for a good clean and new bearings and seal...
to reveal the stub axle...
The stub axle.
furst ah removed the six bolts and metal ring...
then pulled it off to reveal the cv joint....
The seal on the stub axle was a bit knackered....
so ah got me special tool ( a big long screwdriver) which ah bent near the end so's it could catch the seal from the other end....
and knocked the seal and bronze bush out together...
gave the axle a wee clean and then put a thin smear of oil on the new seal and pushed it in (open side furst) usin' a socket and a hammer....
and then knocked the new bronze bush in with a piece of wood and a hammer....
The CV joint.
Ah removed it along with the halfshaft from the swivel housin', gave it a clean and stuck it in a vice....
Ah had to remove the cv to get the collar off the half shaft so's ah could stick it on me new h/s and stuck the new clip on as well....
next ah smeared some of the cv grease into the top and stuck the rest inside the cv.....
and then bein' carefull not to damage the clip on the h/s, ah chapped the h/s into the cv....
Then it's just a case of stickin' it all back together usin' new gaskets, usin' a lockin' compound on the bolts and refillin' with One-shot swivel grease or oil.
That's it, job done
