okay... "finished" rebuilding my front axle... it's an earlier style one with the bronze bush stub axle.

Anyhow... come to fit the drive flanges and no amount of straining/pulling/levering will get the cv shaft far enough out to where I can get the shim and circlip on.

I did not change the halfshafts or CV's so where can it be getting hung up?

Running out of idea's and trying to avoid stripping it all back down again.

Tried a flange bolt, but even hanging off it with a claw hammer I just can't seem to budge it a millimetre.

even if I left the shim off, I would not be able to get the circlip on :(

Well then you need to see what cv butts up too and work out why its not without looking speculation.

Have you got the drive member on. If so take that off and then you will have some play, pull out then ease drive member back on

wont pull out... even with drive member removed.. it's stuck fast.

Had a busy afternoon so not had a chance to play around with it. Will crack on in the morning as I have the week off :)

okay... stripped back to stub axle... CV joint is very tight fit in bronze bush but managed to tap it all the way in.

re-assembled to find lo and behold... the CV is exactly the same as before... about 10mm too short.

I'm totally at a loss now, there's no way the cv can go any further into the bush, yet it's still too short.

I think I might have solved it.

Is there only supposed to be one seal on the stub axle... inside the bronze bush?

Because I have an inner seal, then the bush and then an outer seal.

I removed that outer seal and bobs your auntie... I can get the shim and circlip on now.

I'm assuming the outer seal was sent to me in error (part of a kit)?
