hi im new to all this, but i have just bought a landy purely for off roading. i have gone for a v8, but today it cut out in a big arse puddle. the car came with a k&n that needs to go asap but the dizzy was soaking . is there a way to protect the dizzy for the future? thanks in advance.

buy a tdi.


for the disi and tother electrics, you need wd40, and lots of it.
vasaline smeared all over your sparky bits will help a lot.

there used to be a sealer/varnish type aerosol can stuff, for the job, dont know if you can still buy it. i never liked it.

ps, if you can find an 9 fingered rubber glove, thatll do it.

was thinking of that already just wasnt sure if it would be good enough. as the tdi goes, that is what i was gona buy but was advised on a v8 for off roading? is that porkys???

Spray the dizzy cap with waxoil,stinks a bit for a while but hitting a 3ft deep puddle at 30mph only results in a complete lack of vision and wet legs as the 4spd gearlever gaiter in an old 2dr RR wont stay on.Still runs on 8 though.
Sailsbury Plain is fun in winter.

regarding off road work and diesel v petrol.
ive always prefered the diesels. never understood any commercial fitted with a petrol engine. (the landy is basically a truck).
i can see little use for the added bhp of the petrol apart from high speed motorway work.

if they made/fitted a 4 litre diesel, i dont think they would sell any petrol models!

There is no substitute for cubes when you need to oomph your way through, over, across any obstacle.
Having said that, if it's going to die on you in the water, then you need serious waterproofinhg of everything electrical as advised previously. The V8 just has that extra go when you need it, not to mention the throaty rumble that breaks the quiet serenity of the bush.
