I'd be prepared to pay this much for a proper rack:

Probably, just the standard roof bars whistle like a gale force wind through an alley

What would you conjure to fasten it to the rails? I had an idea of something similar ro a scaffold clip with a rubber insert and shaped to the bars with some security feature my current ones have rubbish plastic and a key(which i dont have lol)

I'd buy a set of standard bars off ebay and pinch the 4 standard brackets, then you have locking keys too ;)

In notcertain there that good well for beavy use i can move mine if i put some effort in, id feel safer with nuts n bolts for the sort of stuff id be putting on it like concrete fence posts..

Another idea maybe not for me but an idea none the less, could be a storage box that fills the gap bellow the rack between the it and the landy good for bits n bobs maybe a drawer..

I'm sure the weight limit on 3dr rails is something like 50kg you know...

You'd need to put some sort of aero deflector in front of the rail to divert air then or its gonna sound bad and ruin your mpg, something like this

Yakima Roof Rack Fairing (44-Inches) | eBay

Dya mean for the box under tb rack idea?
Spose you could angle the front of it

The box could be shaped sq bck with a poi t to nothing front (likea right angled triangle) could even fit upsidd down forcing the air between it and the roof..
All relative if no one wants one lol..

75kg on a 3dr. My roof rack has about 10mm between the roof and the rail avg and I get no noise from it whatsoever, but the rack is slung in between the rails.

Added a couple of pics of my switch panel too for those that are interested. Can make more if theres a demand.

Can have a look at a 5dr and see what I can come up with. Been interested in doing something like that for a while anyway.

I'd love a roofrack for the 3dr in the same shape as the standard one but continuing to the front of the car and securing to the roof above the front screen.
I've taken off the plastic covers and found the channels but as yet I haven't found a bar that would do as a light bar or to bring the weight of whatever is on the roof more central over the car.

Also my 3dr roof rack isn't very strong. I've checked all fixings are tight but it doesn't look like it'd take a roof tent or anything heavy.
So if you could make a tubular roof rack that covers the entire roof of the 3dr and secures at the front too, I'd be very interested.

Can make anything within reason, although I suppose wouldn't need a light bar if a full length roof rack could be fitted that didn't foul the sunroofs
