I bought a personal plate (for my other car) one evening after coming home from a long session at the pub.
Sober the next day I wondered why I’d wasted money on something so frivolous but I really like it, it’s been on 2 cars now, you don’t have to learn to remember a new reg number! However I’d suggest getting one that you’ll want to transfer to potential next vehicles rather than one specific to the Landy you own now.
Also, the better ones will increase in value.

That's the best answer so far to the OP's question, why should anyone be considered a knob just for wanting to be an individual? If they wanted to follow the herd they wouldn't have bought a LR product in the first place.
nb: top marks go to those with the proper ones ie Series, RRC's & pre 'nineties Defenders ;);)

I'll get my coat

If it’s a car that’s less than 3 years old and it’s of any value and it’s got a standard issue plate on it, and it’s pretty standard looking, it makes it look like it’s a company contract hire, or a rental car.

Buy one that puts a smile on peoples’ faces; here’s one from just a couple of days ago... :D

Not quite sure if the OP has his answer or not.
Tot up the knobs vs the non-knobs I suppose & just like Brexit ignore the result if it doesn't suit you
