To be honest it does sound rather unpleasant way of cultivating coffee beans, but it does taste rather nice (only ever had it once - can't afford it daily...Nescafe Gold Blend will do me!!)

I guess honey is regurgitated nectar when you think about it. And coffee is roasted so that will kill off any bugs.

Thinking t through, many foods require fermentation of some sort before consumption to improve the flavour - like chocolate. So, digestion probably has similar effects. Probably tastes better than it sounds!

You'll be surprised how much food is processed in some fashion to get the best flavour out of it.....often times, the man-made processes replicate a natural process....
 
When I was in vietnam you could buy a coffee called chom which meant fox and that had passed through the guts of a fox
