ps that diagram is for a defender the best 4x4x (clarkson pause) by far.......(are there any other kinds of land rover then? ;):p)

1.1.11 Rigid brake pipes

If the metal brake pipes have surface dirt that needs to be removed before it’s possible to assess their condition, you can lightly scrape the pipe with a specialist brake pipe corrosion tool or the corrosion assessment tool ‘spade end’. It must be done with care so that any protective coating doesn’t get damaged.

Chafing, corrosion or damage to a rigid brake pipe so that its wall thickness is reduced by 1/3 (approximately 0.25 mm for typical hydraulic brake pipe) justifies rejection, although it's accepted that this isn't easy to determine. If you aren’t sure whether the pipe is sufficiently deteriorated to justify rejection, you should give the benefit of the doubt.

Defect Category
  1. Brake pipe is at imminent risk of failure or fracture
Dangerous
  1. Leaking brake pipe or connection:
  1. on an air brake system
Major
  1. on a hydraulic systems
Dangerous
  1. Brake pipe damaged or excessively corroded
Major (C)
  1. Brake pipe:
  1. inadequately clipped or supported
Minor
  1. likely to become detached or damaged
Major

so you need to work out which pipes they refer to you may have flexis to the caliper no idea on your thingy etc

and advisories -
brake pipe corroded, covered in grease ...... nearside + offside rear
brake hose slightly deteriorated nearside + offside front
arrr so you have flexi and solid so like me you need to change both, unlikly to be back to the master cylinder but problem is the connections snap when you remove, so you need ot do a join with a pipe flaring kit'

Ring a garage and ask how much for short soild and flexi pipes replce both sides front, you likely to get a d=fairer price if you half sound like you know what you need etc!

Hi All,
Reading with interest, I just had my off side rear split just by the flexi to the calliper. On inspection at my local independent tyre and mot station they got the whole job quoted as all the covers etc have to come off for the LR front to back kit to go in. So opted for both rear full sets. Cost just over £500 but all done in 24 hours and not a drop of fluid on the hands or a foul word said. Well not until the final bill. Did both rear discs and pads as well as the mot was due a month later. Like the man says cost v pain. I missed out on the fun but boy it was rewarding not to have the brake pedal on the carpet. Good luck however you proceed.
Tricky.

Interested to know how many hours labour are in the £500 ?? just gives me an idea of the time it will take

most of it is always labour, pipe x 25m £10 connectors 50 for £6 etc some parts are expensive of course,
but Parts mark up for a garage is always between 100-150%
EG service all parts inc oil required trade £40 (they charge £80) and have a good sniff around to see what else they can 'scare' you into getting done!

Defender TD5 genuine injectors are £629 / or £329 for a cheapo brand (trade £159 each)

Hi,
Talking to the fitter at the time he said once they had all the parts it was about an hour on the ramp. Most of the cash was for ready made kits with flexible pipes so just plug and bleed. Having said that they did have the car In bits tracing back to remove and quote. So realistically, two hours for trained fitter. Call it two days if I'd have done it all myself. LOL.
Tricky.

Think I need to get a best mate in the trade lol

where did the "ready made" kit come from?? found a company in Buckingham that make for most

Hi,
They referred to it as LR Kit but I take that with the proverbial "pinch of salt" as these workshops often use local motor factors, looks like a pucker job though so good enough for me as every job they've done for me to date has been without drama. Like many, I tend to stay with trades that serve me well and look to replace those that don't,
Tricky.

On the discovery I don't know how easy it would be with a ready made kit, as the hardest part was wiggling the pipe through the drivers side wing. I didn't find the pipe bending tool much help and carefully bent it by hand. It was an easier job than I thouht, but removing the old corroded pipe and flexi was a pain.

Well, had some interesting chats today with "Landrover" garages. One said about 5hrs work to strip and replace the front - £290 + vat. Another said about 8hrs work @ £50 p/h and couldn't quote as didn't know how much pipe would be needed, and the 3rd, never done an L322, but would make the pipes for me if I can provide old pipework, normally charges £10 a pipe, but would happily let me supply the cunifer and he has only ever worked with copper, and just charge the labour to make - Hmmmm

I have done both my Disco and Defender in copper front to back. Its a dawdle.
Get one of these as its a fantastic bit of kit.

As @jamesmartin said though, the copper pipe will not free off easily at the fittings after a couple of years.

oh, and speaking to a breakers, said it would be cheaper to buy new than ask them to strip out the old to use as a template - so far quoting about £40 - £50 for new pipes to use as a template (sale or return so I buy them, then give them back lol)
