Hey lads, some of ye (aaron) might be aware, ive decided to swap the 200tdi out for a Cummins 6bt lump. so i said it was about time i filled the ye in on the progress so far :)

So first on the to do list was to pick up a Daf45 and strip it! :

Once that was out and brought home, the next step was to strip the 110, i knew it needed a bit of chassis work so the plan was to strip it back to bare chassis and build from the ground up:

And then the rot needed to be assessed :( :

The budget wont allow for a shiny new chassis so ive had to work with what i have so heres a look at the repairs so far:

Bought a 12v started and alternator with a vacuum pump (cummins doesnt have one):

I was getting a bit disheartened by the amount of welding i needed to do so took a break from it and decided to fit the engine to the chassis for a look :) :

Once in i started lining up where the transfer box was going to sit (obviously under the crossmember but was trying to see how close to the chassis rail it'd sit) :

Clearance around the axle looks ok so far :) :

Whole lot sits about an inch and a half from the front crossmember (tight fit!!) :

Then today, i had a go at fitting the bulkhead, a wing and the bonnet to see will it all squeeze closed, it did, JUST!! :

Thats all for now lads!

Next on the to do list is finish the chassis, and once im happy i have all the brackets and bits welded on that i need, ill send it to be galvanised.

Let me know what ye think!

This is something I'd love to do so I'm book marking all these threads. Still waiting on a building then I can start saving things up towards mine.... I quiet fancy doing mine as a 110 twin cab with stacks :D

If you like skinned knuckles, a sore back and half a bucket of rust dust in your lungs, i cant recommend it enough! that aside, its a great project, and i definitely recommend it!

Already had all that having rebuilt my 300 TDi 90 already.

How do you plan to mate Transfer box to Gearbox?

Ive designed an adapter plate working from Sitec's 101 adapter plate design, essentially its the same, its been built for aarons 90 6bt build so if you want to take a look at it head over to his build thread :)

Good work keep it up.

Been doing more welding yesterday evening, the welding list is getting smaller thank god!

To do:

Inner N/S chassis leg under A-frame Crossmember medium sized patch
Outer O/S chassis leg small patch.
Bottom N/S + O/S chassis leg, under aframe x-member, medium sized patches
2x second row outriggers (require approx 4 patches)
front N/S chassis leg, near spring seat, small patch.

Done:
Replace A-frame
Front outriggers 6 patches
Front crossmember 2patches
front O/S dumb iron 1 patch
rear x-member some welding

Also measured up for a center mounted rear winch im looking at putting in, will post pictures tonight :)

OP, what alternator did you use? Transit one? Also how much was the 12V starter - looks brand new?

Looking good though - I'll be starting my 130 Cummins project in a couple of weeks :D

Cheers :)

Just don't buy the wrong starter like me

Cummins 130 sounds good, I'll look forward to the pics :D

Yes I'll be starting a build thread in the near future :)

I've recently got hold of my engine, a 150hp intercooled version with the VE pump. The gearbox/transfer box are sorted already and mated together so it's just a case of 'dropping it in' :D

Awesome :)
Better than my mere 130hp engine
I'll look forward to your just dropping it in thread :p

It will be nice to have 150hp 'out of the box', but yours will be exactly the same just with a milder tune on the pump I think :)

My power target is more conservative than some others, I want a 100% reliable 200bhp (which should equate to about 450 ft/lb torque) which will be more than enough to shove the 130's fat arse around :p

There's a chap on Just Defenders & Series on Facebook who is trying to get a group deal on these fuel pins which are supposed to be good for up to 40hp on 6BTs.
