since the kids freeze in the back of my 110 even though its toasty in the front it got me thinking and i came up with the idea of a cubby box heater.

from what i an tell a heater matrix from a vw golf should fit in the paddock cubby box i could then cut some holes add a 12v fan and tee off the existing waterpipes to the standard heater.

it sounds simple in my head but wondered if there is something im missing that would make it not work or if there are other soulutions other than a good coat.
 
I had a Nissan Serena a few years back and that's the standard arrangement for its heating. A seperate matrix and fan for the back of the car with the hoses as you described. Don't see why it won't work.
 
Cant see why this should not work. Dont use a mk2 golf matrix as they are pretty weak - a mk3 is the same size and much stronger.

Only possible issues I can see is you are halving the flow through each heater which may reduce the effectiveness and also the chance for an air lock in it when first filling.

Will be interested to see how you get on though

VW recalled all mk2 Golf and Jetta's (Id had one of eaxch) in the mid 90s and fitted a pressure relief valve to the pipework for the matrix just before they entered the bulkhead. if you get a MK2 matrix get the relief valve as well.
 
well i have the box so will check out ebay for the rest of the bits. will let u know how things go and take some pics
 
i've been looking to do something similar with my 110-was thinking about a twin battery set up running an invertor to power a tube heater fixed onto the floor.
 
yeah those inverters are not cheap though. i gotta 700w but that buzzes like a bee hive with just my laptop charger in. was thinking the cubby box idea would come in under £100 might keep the coffee warm 2
 
yeh mate-i can get a 1000 watt one for 90, 25 quid for the tube heater and about 150 for the battery and set up stuff-not looking cheap come to think of it
 
does anyone make a decent 12 v heater if so it might be cheaper to run a second altanator to run it
 
Eberspacher are a little expensive i could put a spare 200tdi in the back for that. or replace alot of melted chocolate.
 
When it gets really cold here (-30 and below - Bulgaria) I put my petrol genny in the back of the 110 (with exhaust extension) and run a 240v 3kw fan heater.

Run it off the mains for about 30 mins before setting off and then run it on the genny while out and about.

Nice and toasty warm and also have a mobile 240v supply
 
I suppose the noise defenders help to keep your ears warm as well :)
A 3kw fan heater will do the job though.
 
what about the 12volt plug in ceramic heaters. not sure what they would be like for prelonged use but they are small and give off a good heat.you would be able to set ontop of the cubby and direct the heat back
 
What about the FBH out of a Gaylander. there's gotta be plenty of em in the scrappers??
